About Us

The Sylvania Community Action Team (S.C.A.T.) is committed to helping our community address the issue of at risk behavior among our young people. S.C.A.T. members include parents, school personnel, police officers, elected officials, and community leaders. We work in partnership with local organizations to support a healthy community.

S.C.A.T. meets throughtout the year to plan programs for our community such as the following:

  • Parent to Parent - An opportunity for parents, teachers, coaches or anyone interested in working with young people to pick up some extra “tools” to help them deal with current issues facing our children today.

  • Red Ribbon Week - A national celebration of a choice to be drug free! Our community and schools are blanketed with red ribbons as a visible reminder of this important decision. There are special projects planned at the elementary and junior high level. Student organizations usually plan the festivities at the senior high level. The theme this year will be “Dream It, Be It, Drug Free.”

  • 24-Hour Relay Challenge - Held annually  this activity has two major goals. The first is to celebrate youth and community in an alcohol, drug, tobacco, and violence-free environment. The second is to raise funds  which are distributed back to the community in the form of mini-grants. For 24 hours each team of ten individuals has a member walking (running, skipping, dancing, hopping) on the track. Team members each contribute a participation fee. They are provided with food and receive a T-shirt to take home as a souvenir. There is live entertainment with games and activities that contribute to the celebration and make the time pass quickly. Adult community members belong to teams as well and serve important volunteer functions such as food preparation, coaches, security, and clean-up.
